As voters gear up for the Election 2024 season, Pershing County residents head into the Primary races with two county commission districts on the ballot for the June 11 race.
Justice of the Peace, School Board, and Big Meadow Conservation District races will be decided in the General Election on November 5, 2024.
Commissioner Shayla Hudson has drawn two challengers for her County Commission Seat A position, Wendy Nelsen and Chuck Sayles. Nicole Reitz withdrew from the race on March 12.
On Friday, April 26, Nelsen was in District Court facing a challenge to residency requirements to run for office in Pershing County. The Pershing Post will cover the results in an upcoming story.
Commission Chairman Larry Rackley has drawn an opponent for his seat in Connie Gottschalk.
The Justice of the Peace race sees Darrel Mancebo and Daniel Murphy facing off, the School District Trustee Seat B candidates are challenger Tina Gallagher and incumbent Michael Mancebo, while Seat E candidates are incumbent Marci Carruth and challenger Charles Safford.
Several offices have effectively been settled, Melanie Hamilton is unopposed in the General Election for Recorder-Auditor, Melissa Shields is unopposed in the primary election for School District Trustee, Seat D, as is Sondra Sayles for the Hospital District Trustee. The three candidates for Lovelock Meadows Water District Trustee, James List, Kevin Machado, and John Portman have all been declared elected.
The Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 11 with early voting beginning May 25.
