“‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in the hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.”
Many children have heard renditions of this poem written by Clement Clarke Moore (1779-1863). He was the author of Poems (Barlett & Welford, 1844) which included the poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas.”
December in Lovelock is a busy time for jolly St. Nick! There were Santa Sightings at the Lovelock Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, December 7, 2024, where Breakfast with Santa at the LVFD is an annual event that the community’s children love to attend.
Later that morning, Santa hitched a ride on the fire truck to go to the Pershing County Community Center for mingling with children of all ages at the Friends of the Library’s 47th Annual Craft Fair. Santa could be seen visiting the craft booths, sharing smiles and “ho-ho-ho’s” with happy shoppers. In the lobby, Santa listened to children giving him their list and he checked his list twice to see if the children were naughty or nice.
To top off the busy day, Santa was the Grand Marshall for the Lovelock Parade of Lights. Every year, Santa uses his Christmas magic to light the tree on Main Street. Santa settled into Temptations for a nice cup of hot cocoa, a few cookies, and visits with the children while visions of sugar plumbs dance in their heads.
“A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back, and he looked like a peddler just opening his pack. His eyes – how they twinkled! His dimples how merry! His cheeks like roses, his nose like a cherry! And the beard on his chin was white as snow.”
Santa has a busy schedule for the rest of the Christmas season.
“With a wink of an eye and a twist of his head, he spoke not a word but went straight to work. And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose, He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle. “Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! On, Cupid! On, Donner and Blitzen!”
Children won’t need to look to the sky for the eight tiny reindeer and sleigh. They can find Santa around Lovelock. Big R Lovelock will be hosting Santa on December 20, 2024, from 3 p.m. till 5 p.m. The Safeway in Lovelock will have Santa visit them on December 21, 2024, from 10 a.m. till noon.
You may even find Santa at the Pershing County schools, some Christmas parties, and a few special sightings in between.
But the most special day of all, Christmas Eve, Santa will be at the Lovelock Main Street Christmas Tree. Each year, Santa visits the children of the community and wishes them a very merry Christmas. Santa will arrive in style in a fire truck, courtesy of the Lovelock Volunteer Fire Department. You are invited to bring your children for this special visit at 6 p.m. December 24, 2024.
“And away they all flew like the down of a thistle, But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight, ‘Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night’.”
