Lovelock held the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Parade of Lights on the evening of December 7, 2024. This year there were thirteen parade entries. Staging for the parade takes place on 6th Street by the hospital; residents of the Pershing General Hospital and Long-Term Care facility had front row seats to the parade activity.
Leading the parade was the Grand Marshall and VIP, Santa Claus! Santa left his reindeer at the North Pole, so he jumped onto a fire truck to ride in the parade. Lovelock Volunteer Fire Department led the parade through the streets of Lovelock. When they reached the dark Christmas Tree in the middle of the city, there was a pause in the parade. Santa used his Christmas magic to light up the tree!
Following Santa and his caravan of fire trucks, there were several awesome lighted vehicles with people playing Christmas music and calling out to on-lookers, “Merry Christmas!” There were lighted vehicles from some of the employers in the community, service groups, the Lovelock Paiute Tribe, and families too.
First place winner was The Coyles Nile Valley Tree Farm. Second Place winner was the Lovelock Paiute Tribe, and Third Place winner was Mike Ellison Cal Nevada Towing.
Since 2021 Twilight Twinkles has taken on the task of organizing this event. A group of locals got together and formed an organization that they named Twilight Twinkles. Coming out of the pandemic, Twilight Twinkles wanted to create a “December to Remember” to bring the community back together and celebrate our resiliency to the shutdowns. Twilight Twinkles has evolved to spreading joy and creating other events throughout the year, but they still focus heavily on the Christmas Season. Watch their blog on Facebook, Twilight Twinkles, for upcoming events.
