For 47 years, the Friends of the Library have held their annual Christmas Craft Fair, the main fundraiser for the group, with proceeds going to help support the programming at the library. This year’s fair was sold out for vendor booths and there was a waiting list of hopeful vendors.
Each year on the first Saturday in December, vendors set up their wares for people to buy and get a jump on holiday shopping. The Pershing County Community Center is transformed into a small shopping mall, filled to the brim with amazing items. There were over 30 booths with jewelry, wreaths, cutting boards, crocheted items, quilts, tumblers, baked goods clothing, and more. The busiest time to shop was from about 10 a.m. till noon.
At lunch-time, vendors and shoppers went to get a bar-b-que beef sandwich sold by the Pershing County 4-H program. Each year, the kids have a food booth, many of you may remember when they sold candy, cookies, and popcorn balls. The 4-H Cooking Club teaches youth life skills for how to cook, bake, and have confidence in the kitchen.
Visitors to the community center were able to meet with Santa. He greeted children and adults, posed for pictures and asked children for their Christmas lists.
A new event was added to this year’s craft fair; the Lovelock Community Singers held a mini concert as a sneak peek for their upcoming concert. Led by Christine Johnson, ten men and women sang three different Christmas songs. This included the Hot Chocolate song made famous in the Tom Hanks movie, Polar Express.
The Lovelock Community Singers invite the community to their upcoming concerts, December 15 at 4 p.m. and December 18 at 6 p.m. Both concerts will be at the Lovelock Methodist / Episcopal Church on Cornell Avenue.
